4 inch TFT LCD Display 320x480 ILI9488 with OPTL Touch Panel Screen

Description

ER-TFT040-5 is a 4-inch TFT LCD display​ with a 320×480 pixel​ portrait format (55.68×83.52 mm active area, 56.68×84.52 mm visual area). Driven by the ILI9488​ controller in COG packaging, it supports a wide host interface set: 8080 MCU 8-bit and 16-bit parallel​ as well as 3-wire and 4-wire serial SPI, selected via the IM0–IM2 straps on the 40-pin FPC. The TN cell gives 70° left / 70° right / 70° up / 50° down​ viewing, 65K / 262K / 16.7M​ color depth, a 500:1​ typical contrast ratio, and 300 cd/m²​ brightness from an 8-chip LED backlight running at 120 mA typ. (160 mA max, 3.0 V typ, 20k hrs @ 25 ℃).

ER-TFT040-5 logic runs on VDDI 1.65–3.3 V (typ 2.8 V)​ for the interface and VCI 2.5–3.3 V (typ 2.8 V)​ for the analog core, with absolute max 4.6 V on both rails. The 40-pin FPC exposes DB0–DB15, WR/RD, CS, DC, RESET, TE, SPI SCLK/SDA/SDO, LED-A/K, and the IM0–IM2 selector. A 30 ms typical response time handles menus, gauges, and general HMI graphics. The module is not sunlight-readable​ and ships as a bare glass+FPC assembly (60.88×94.57×2.4 mm with FPC folded).

ER-TFT040-5 is offered with optional touch: a 4-wire resistive panel (ER-TP040-5)​ on the XL/YU/XR/YD pads, or a capacitive panel (ER-TPC040-5)​ with an onboard controller on a separate 8-pin FPC (VDD, RST, INT, SCL, SDA, GND, I²C). We provide ILI9488 demo code, wiring diagrams, and libraries for Arduino (Mega, Due, Uno with level shifting), STM32, ESP32, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi​ on buydisplay.com, covering both SPI and 8080 parallel bring-up so you can choose bus width vs. pin-count trade-offs per project.

Rated for −20~+70 ℃​ operating and −30~+80 ℃​ storage, ER-TFT040-5 fits enclosed indoor equipment. As with all TFT panels, avoid showing a fixed image longer than 2 hours to prevent temporary image sticking (reversible by running an all-black pattern for several hours).

That is suitable for a wide range of applications, including industrial control systems, home automation panels, portable instruments, medical aux displays, and any MCU or SBC project needing a cost-effective 4-inch portrait color screen with parallel-or-SPI flexibility and optional touch.

The LED backlight driver IC we suggest to use for this display is PT4110.
